Our Mission Statement describes our approach in everything we do here at Wildshoot Forest & Farm. These have been personal practices my entire adult life, but became intentionally the Wildshoot way of doing things over ten years ago when I took on the name Wildshoot.
We’re here to have fun with our gatherings! How the nature space and manmade space is respected and treated at Wildshoot Forest & Farm adds to that good feeling.
Plant and animal life at Wildshoot Forest & Farm is fed organically. Compost, byproducts of chickens and bunnies and wood chips from fallen trees is incorporated into the soil slowly being built up. Living at the foothills of the Cascades makes cultivating a unique challenge, and being outside Puget Sound’s insulating marine air and higher elevation shortens the growing season. We adapt and keep learning and improving. Things are grown in sort of a wildly scattered array at best, and these sown edibles and ornamentals blend together in a similar way as the wilds.
Careful preservation of the wild includes leaving trails be throughout Wildshoot Forest. Trails are cut by wildlife and get maintained with very little human handwork. Clearings spaces are cut every so often during the drier season and these are little hidden meadows opened to sunshine above and encircled in tall treetops that wildlife and humans alike enjoy happening upon.
The Wildshoot Forest & Farm contract is set up to encourage and facilitate conservation of resources & energy, which naturally helps lower waste. The kitchen is not commercial but does provide a shared space for preparing and plating to be brought and returned offsite. We think being mindful about consumption leads to simplicity and improved methods, both personally and collectively. We heartily appreciate our clients for responding gladly and cheerfully in their planning and actions!
