A simple bed and breakfast encounter in 2016 entered a dramatic view of the person of the farmer into my world. Belgian photographer and filmmaker, Eva Verbeeck, had just finished a film called ‘Age of the Farmer’, a fascinating bittersweet collection of personal hardship and triumph of today’s farmer.

Eva skillfully works her passion for her subjects into visual storytelling, an expressive language that is emotionally moving. See her work www.evaverbeeck.com

“There is a beautiful generation of young people out there doing amazing work every day. That’s what I want to show in my work. Daily I am inspired by the power of people and it brings such a joy in my life. I want to translate those stories to others.” Eva

Eva was here in 2016 to photograph a Skagit Valley flower farmer. Floret Flowers was a hidden gem about to no longer be a kept secret. Owner Erin Benzakein was leading a flower farm revolution. Today that little flower farm is a structural influence in the new major industry of the local flower farm movement www.floretflowers.com I was enamored with Erin’s generosity and her Floret seeds were welcomed here and are carefully cultivated using Erin’s helpful guidance ever since.
